Anything by Tad Williams
The song of Fire and Ice series, by George R. R. Martin
The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.

The authors of these books write incredible and original stories. In addition the level they write on is far beyond anything else I have read within the fantasy genre.

I think R.A. Salvatore should be mentioned. I still like to call The Dark Elf trilogy one of my favorite series of all time.

I've been meaning to check out The song of Ice and Fire series for a long time as I hear it's incredible.

Raymond E. Feist is a really good author. David Eddings is a very good author as well. Tad Williams is an excellent writer but I dont care for how he writes out his story.

I finished the Sword of Truth Series over the weekend. READ IT ALLEN. The last book is great. He cut 90% of the Philosophical BS and made ended his series perfectly. If you got sick of the series at Chainfire like the rest of us suffer through Phantom and read Confessor. I couldn't put down the book.

Here's a shout out for The Name of the Wind, by Pat Rothfuss.

Didn't know you're a fan of Drizzt, Mr.Wheel. Awesome.

HUGE fan. The Dark Elf Trilogy is one of my favorite book sets. I'm working on The Name of the Wind now. I've heard from a few people (including you) that it's fantastic.

I think some great books are His Dark Materials by Philip Paulman. But thats just me. Same with I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell by Tucker Max and The Alphabet of Manliness by Maddox. Too fricken good. I highly recommend them to anyone who has a soul.

His Dark Materials is very good. My only real problem(other than some parts of the movie) with them(and This is a common problem among books) is that they are too short. I tend to finish Novels in a day. Did Pulman ever do anything else?

Nothing as good as these. The movie was awesome, for it coming off of a book, unlike those dumb harry potter books that should be 4 hour movies each so that they make sense. I mean, in the first one, it was all sunny and happy one second..then BOOM! fondle longingly CHIRSTMAS! WTF?>!?!?! Meh. But I highly recommend They Serve Beer In Hell and Alphabet of Manliness. Too funny.

Ting is, When you read like me and Couchmaster Book movies have little point except to laugh at for being innacurate. Notable exceptions being LoTR and Jurrasic Park. Even the Episodes 1-3 of Star wars are better in Book form. They are actually really good books. Most of the reason is that you gain a much greater understanding of characters and their motivations in books. Thats just me though.

I think if they learned to make book movies 3+ hours like they did with LOTR they would turn out a lot better.

3+ hr book movies would be far better. And I didn't know you were a Drizzt fan Tom..... its awesome to have found someone who can appreciate the writing skills of R.A. Salvatore. And speaking of good old Robert his books are very good, he is by far the best combat writer i have ever read, he just knows so much about fighting...... its incredible.

The Fountainhead by: Ayn Rand -I know its philosophical, but its still fiction, and really makes you think...

The Blind Mirror by: Christopher Pike - It's a mind fondle longingly book, so don't read it unless you want to be messed with.

Also... The Shining by:Stephen King - That and Carrie are about the only ones I really liked, otherwise its just like he spitting mud... I don't really get how people can read stuff like 'Cell' and like it... I hated how much time it wasted for me when I was finally through with it.
