Daisho Con

Hello, I'm Paul Wiesner, co-chair of Odyssey Con 9: Year of the Cow www.oddcon.com. I read here http://www.patrickrothfuss.com/blog/blog.html that Pat was raising money for Heifer International. Since charity auctions is a fine tradition at many a fan-run con, I thought "Why not a Charity auction at Daisho!"

Pat has agreed to be the auctioneer and will match all donations. This is a last minute production so not all the details are available but it will be starting at 11am on Sunday with registration for bidder numbers starting at 10am (We are running an Oddcon party saturday night so hopefully 10am isn't too early).

Pat and I are donating items but we could always use more. Either show up early on Sunday or talk to me at the party or if neither works I'm sure someone on the Daisho Con staff will be happy to accept it and get it into the charity. A minimum bid and your name would be cool so we know what to start the bid on and who to thank.

Here's a question and a possible problem: Would having it be cash/check only be a deal killer? We will have a laptop for registration and record keeping during the auction, but I nor my friend Brian(owner of the laptop) have any experience in using Paypal. If someone has the expertise and can set up an account for donations via credit card that would be awesome.

If not I'm sure the hotel has an ATM right?

I was just wondering how the auction went Paul. Could you give final numbers, or if you don't want to post them PM them to me. As a side note, if you or anybody else ever does a charity auction, let me know. ChAdam Games always has stuff for such an occasion.

First a thanks to DaishoCon and Chadam for donating stuff. With around 7 bidders we raised over $200 for Heifer International. The stuff that didn't go this year will be held for next year's charity auction. So hopefully this will become a DaishoCon tradition.

So for a last minute thing I think it went pretty well.
