I'm not very good at substituting materials. What could those wings be made from that would simulate the inky darkness staining the core of my soul, or wrought-iron fenceposts, or whatever they're actually supposed to be, anyway?

Thanks!

You're being Koki Kariya?! I FREAKIN LOVE THAT GUY.

But anyways.

Hmm... You could try using foamcore or something, and just draw them out and cut them, then spray paint them black. Getting them to stay in place would be another force entirely, though. You could also try craft foam too. They're like 2D, so using something flat and stiff would work fine. Otherwise you could try using wire and cover it with fabric.

Holy crap! Enthusiasm!
It's the hair, actually. Just about nobody in all of animedom has dreadlocks, and I don't really have the luxury of being able to wear a wig over them, but Kariya's hair is messy enough that I can fake it.
Thanks to your suggestions, I'm almost done, I just have to figure out whether I can go through doorways without having to pull the wings off.

BTW, anyone interested is hereby invited to go as Uzuki. I was just going to explain her absence with some kind of riff on a Louis Armstrong concert, but it'd be even cooler if I didn't have to!

I myself have been trying to figure out what to do about a cosplay costume I've been thinking up I'm a rather bulky guy so I dont wanna cosplay anything thats not within my possibility of doing. I was wondering about everyones thoughts on how to do Free from Soul Eater.

Its Halloween a ball and chain shouldn't be hard to find my main issue is finding a striped 1 piece jump suit, Doing the design on the t shirt and then finding an adequate contact for him cause I've not been able to find anything that looks to near it. (its like a red outlind tryforce with a red circle around it)

Image

I know for sure I wont be able to do this for Daisho con this year at least but next Acen is possible since I'll be living in Chicago by then anyways. I'm a major quality nut to so simply making do inst much of an option.

(I also know I'd have to wear a girdle or something for my stomach unless I lose my gut by Acen witch is possible cause I wont be able to eat like I do when I go back to college)

Don't wiz on the electic fence!
I also should know better than to leave myself logged in and leave.

White design on black shirt?
Yeah, I think I know something about how not to do that :)
I'd recommend bleach and regular paint over a freezer paper stencil, or else regular fabric paint or fusible web with something extremely opaque if you aren't worried about the design being raised up from the rest of the outfit. At the very least, stay away from iron-on dye, paint markers, and spray paint.
The jumpsuit looks a lot like old-fashioned stereotypical prisoner garb, so anyplace that stocks balls and chains should have those too.
The rest I have no idea about. Draw on your eye with a sharpie?

Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

Pardon the Thread Necromancy, but I needed to ask.

Does anyone had any idea where I can get one of the old Over-the-ear style headsets for my scout costume? I've got most of the rest save the Baseball pants (but I can improvise with a pair of shorts if need be) but the Hat and the earpiece really sell the outfit.

Here's a decent pic of it: (It's hosted on my server... if it doesn't show up, just click refresh)

Get an image that isn't hotlinked and I might be able to help. We sell over-the-ear headsets at work.

Okay, well, we don't sell them with earpieces that big. Mostly for phone use. May sound strange, but check out stock car racing sites. Their pit crews use very similar headsets (not sure about getting monaural though) and there's probably a few links to good equipment stores. I know my dad has similar equipment.

...It wouldn't be too hard to jury rig somethin together. You'd have to splice a regular smaller headset (the kind 1stAgent is talkin about) with a cheap bigger pair of phones. It wouldn't be working, of course, but for prop reasons, it could be done. I have no idea where to just get them already like that.

Yeah, I was expecting to get a regular pair of over-the-ear phones like that, cut the right one off and jury-rig the mic with a bic pen... I've seen it done. It's just finding a set.

And I don't need it working.... if they're shot, that's fine.

If that's all you need, start with protective earmuffs, they'll look closer to the original and probably be cheaper than working phones, too.
