With this split between the two fandoms I really feel torn. My specialty when it comes to gaming and anime is very much so, gaming. I knew a lot about games by the time I was ten, I didn't even know what anime was before I was around 12 (though, I found out a lot of my favorite shows were animes). But thats my delema, while I do love gaming, I want to get more into anime, of course both take time (which I have very little of). So I'm split, would I go to the one I obviously would have more knowledge of, or to the one I want to learn more about? In the end it's a win-win situation but wich is the bigger win? Of course, talking about this is simply trivial as I will more likely than not, not be able to attend either. :( :suicide:

Depends on what you mean by "learning." If you're just going to plan to passively watch anime on the side, do Gencon. They do have some anime programming, with superior gaming events. If you're going to actively seek out assorted panels, particularly regarding the roots of anime, go with Iowa. They have a nice program with samples of classic anime with seminars and discussions related to it. It's an under-utilized but appreciated part of Anime Iowa.

I beg to differ. Yes, the dance draws many attendees, but it certainly isn't the mainstay of the convention.

See 1stAgent's con report http://www.firstagent.net/cons/08iowa/page1.htm. Even though it's from his personal viewpoint, there's a lot more than the dance.

And there's snails. :)

I talked it over with my friend, who was also planning on attending one of the two, and we're thinking Anime Iowa.

Spittin, I know you mentioned that you and Aminar have a room already... could him and I possibly squeeze in with you?

That's fine. I do have my own car, and though I may not have some fancy-pants GPS, I can get directions.

This is my understanding of who we're saving spots for:

Me
Aminar
Couchmaster
You
Sam (not sks)
Monica?
Hilary?
Usako?
Toast
Toast's friend

And I'm going to officially 'cap' our room right there. That's plenty for one room even if a couple people don't come.
