I just had a not so fun revelation.

A place to openly complain.

I just had a not so fun revelation.

I figured out why the people I can't stand are the people I can't stand.

I honestly have a healthy dislike of few people. It's a small but growing list. Mostly it centers around a few things.
First off, disrespect of women. I believe in chivalry and anybody that doesn't gets no respect from me. This is old. I like to think someday this viewpoint will earn enough karma to work for me. So far it hasn't, but I stick to my beliefs pretty tightly.
The other group is people who don't realize the effects of their negativity or just don't care. I have pretty much lost my ability to be friends with some people over this. Whether it be excessive whining, or pushing of a truly negative viewpoint, it drives me nuts. I fully admit life sucks. That's fine. That isn't a reason to continually bitch. Nor is it a reason to treat those around you like crap. Life isn't supposed to be easy or fun. If it was then we would all be born with excessive endorphin generation. Just because your not happy isn't a good reason to push that on everybody else. It's all the more reason to appear happy and do your best to make those around you happy.

I guess I'm pushing emotional socialism. Happy people, even falsely happy ones, cause other happy people. It's the people who refuse to be happy that ruin the whole system and it drives me nuts. Be happy for the people around you. Life could be a lot better, but it could be so much worse.
Given that I would never live that down, I made a wisecrack instead. "Do you have a little white dress? I've had this deep-seated nurse fantasy about you, Murphy."

I donno, I agree with you on the standpoint of happiness spreads, but its on chivalry that I differ. I really do not regard women in any diffrent regard then men. Not that I would be mean or disrespectfull to either of them, all in all I try to be respectful of everybody all the time, unless its like people I know or something, then its just out of fun. But giving women special treatment isnt my style. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I wont open a door for a woman, just simply I would do it regardless what their sex was. I never got why you would pay attention to what the person's sex is at all when you're trying to be respectful.

Indeed you don't have to try to make other people unhappy.. creating drama and lying about things are two of the biggies in that category. Its sick when you watch the friends around some people eat it up.. the only thing you can do is ignore it... or confront the individuals and tell them to shut up or else
"He's telling the truth." reply "How do you know?' with conviction "because he's more sincere when he lies."

I see women as equals who happen to be smaller than me, and often disrespected by society. Therefor they should receive both my respect and gentility. Men and women are designed differently and therefor need some levels of differential treatment. For instance, I'll spar with my roomate. I will not spar with most women in the same manner. I know very few women that can take a punch like Dan. Even then we've both gotten broken ribs sparring.
Another example. I will not treat a women like a sextoy. They are people and should be treated as such.
Chivalry isn't about inequality. It's about fairness and kindness.
Moral concepts are so hard to explain, right and wrong is so situation and intuitive.

That's how I really regard it as well. Chivalry isn't dead its just that the old definition is dated. Its all respect. But saying that I require respect back. if a woman disrespects me I'm not going to sit and act chivalrous for the sake of it. I'll act be nice to everyone but if you disrespect me without having earned that right by knowing me I won't acknowledge your existence.

If chivalry is dead, it's because all the chivalrous men died from hypothermia after giving away their coats.
I have to warn you, I am a bit odd...

And your point is valid Sid. That said, most women are far more respectful(at least as far as I have seen) than men. At least when they aren't being catty, which is never directed at me. Hell even Toast is respectful.

I hate you too, Aminar.

I would say something about what women think of chivalry, but according to people on the staff forums, I'm a man now.

In all seriousness, I don't really tend to notice 'chivalry', if anyone happens to be using it. I just figure they're being nice.

I don't hate you Toast. It's more of a general annoyance thing. I'm pretty sure we both understand we don't get along very well at this point.
