Yes, there is. Besides, if my Faith were in vain, there there's 20 years of really good drugs that I missed out on. :)

No belief in god. If one helps you get through your life easier, with less pain, I will not hold it against you to have one for yourself. However, if it becomes an excuse for persecution, hatred, violence, etc. then it is something to be held against them.
I have to warn you, I am a bit odd...
Also, I don't know better than to leave myself logged in on April 1st.

I resent the cheer in your yes answer, and the lack of options for a polytheistic view. Not that they apply to me, I'm a deist, so there is a god, and it's a meh fact.
Given that I would never live that down, I made a wisecrack instead. "Do you have a little white dress? I've had this deep-seated nurse fantasy about you, Murphy."

You're right. I'm making an unfair assumption about our audience.

I declare: Comments from polytheists (etc) are welcome in this thread.

Mmmm.... I was going to just stay out of this entirely, topics such as these I tend to abstain from on forum-type venues (and besides - I think most people are quite aware of my religious views, or more appropriately, lack thereof.)

I do agree almost entirely with what Vulaas said before me though.

Yes, it's a good thing Vulaas won the thread relatively early or this could have gotten out of hand. :)

I'm totally open to someone with faith in a higher power, so long as they don't:
1) Use it to justify wrongs (everything Vulaas said- persecution, hatred, etc.)
2) Impose their beliefs on others.
3) Inhibit the pursuit of freedom or knowledge.

This may sound strange.... but i don't really care. What happens happens. I like my life, and I'm a really good guy. So if some higher power holds some petty, tiny things against me... then are they really a higher power? And if there isn't anyone.... well i liked my life so far and that is that.

I honestly believe that God pulled me away from a lot of the crap I was messing with when I was younger.

Doesn't really stop me from getting my (possibly) next tattoo, though.

This reminds me of Firefly.
I'm a really good guy.

Meh, I'm a good guy.

Alright maybe I'm just ok.

Karma doesn't have mean there is a god, depending on what you believe.

I believe that what ever you believe in is what is there for you. Your afterlife is what you make it. If you think we rot when we die, then you will rot. If you believe in god and a glorious heaven, then heaven will be waiting. If you believe in a giant flying spaghetti monster and a large ball pit of afterlife, more power to you. I don't blame anyone for not thinking there is a god. But don't you want there to be something after you die?
I live my life as a good person, i try not to do bad things, because I don't like being treated bad, so I guess other people wouldn't like it either.

Thats what I believe in, and after I explained that to my pastor at my church, he said "Chris, I don't think you need to come here anymore."
Thats all he said. I don't know if it was good, or if it was bad, but I will never forget it.

I now no longer attend church, I really like what the comedian Daniel Tosh said "The bible isn't meant to be taken literally, its a set of guidelines to live your life by, and if you need a band rubber around your wrist to tell you that(He's talking about W.W.J.D. bracelets) then you should take it and snap your self in the eye." I know its from a comedian, but he just really summed up what I feel about the bible and faith in general.

So there, yes I believe in God
