Job Searching

Postby Neko Toast on Mon Mar 16, 2009 4:15 pm

Ugh... That's what my vacation is. Job Searching.

I'm pretty sure that most of you aren't from the Madison area, so asking if anyone knows about any job openings in the area isn't going to be effective.

Does anyone know of any companies in general that hire for summer jobs? Specifically college students?

... Food industry is my last resort.

Look up the Wisconsin Job Center site, which has pretty good listings that can be sorted by county and field. Helped me find my job!

there's alot out there you just gotta be willing to do the work to get the job. I had to bother movie gallery every few days for a week showing how much I wanted that job. If you willing to keep bothering them about the job it shows your willing to actualy do the job. you gotta do this with just about everyone you apply for.

Manpower is pretty decent, you'll have to ask for lighter work than did, but temp agency's are kinda reliable employment.
Given that I would never live that down, I made a wisecrack instead. "Do you have a little white dress? I've had this deep-seated nurse fantasy about you, Murphy."

I've been looking for jobs left and right. I might have to lifeguard again, despite my overall hatred of it.

There is a pet store looking for people, though.

The biggest problem these days is that people who are hiring only want people with previous experience. Well, the only previous experience I've ever had is lifeguarding... yeah... For some reason, employers aren't so keen about hiring people who used to 'save lives'. And trust me when I say that when you work at the Madison Public Pool, you made at the very least one save during the course of one summer.

Not always the case you know...if someone comes in a bugs me all the time...that person's resume ends up in the "no" pile.....so keep that in mind

Yep, this thread is being raised from the dead. Why? Because now I'm looking for a job in Madison. And my luck is just about as bad. I tried to apply online to work part-time at a Micheal's (not the custard place, the craft place). I was actually turned down immediately by the website because I don't have any work experience in the field of retail. What the frack.

*sigh* Wow. The only work experience I do have is lifeguarding. I would sooner sell my soul to the devil than resort to that again (and yet I'll probably be lifeguarding in the fall anyway -_-).

Some of the other choices I have are JC Penny, Marshalls, and a few food industry places. Not sure if it's worth applying, though. They only want experience. That's all any company wants these days.

*headdesk* I'm never gonna find a job at this rate.

I wish the Wisconsin Job Center website could actually help me out more. Everytime I've checked it, I didn't come up with anything that focused towards my interests or qualifications...

Except for once. I found a want ad for a Dock Worker at the Younker's in Marshfield back in December of 2004. I figured it would be a fair way to earn some holiday money, so I looked into it. They told me that unloading the delivery truck a couple days a week didn't involve too much work, so I wouldn't be working for very many hours. They offered me a basic janitorial position to go with it. Basicly I just had to pick up the bags of trash, mop the floor, clean windows and mirrors, throw out old display props, and dust the store.

At first I didn't mind it. The work wasn't all that bad, but my own supervisor was just a straight up fat *****, emphasis on the fat *****. She drove me to quit the job after only being employed for 2 months.

Back on subject, now that I'm taking a course in Machine Tool Technology, I pretty much have to go from machine shop to machine shop around the area and ask for job application forms and if there are any openings and such.

Why can't life be more like an RPG where you kill monsters and plunder the gold off their corpses, then go out and collect herbs and animal fur for local merchants in the town?

None of the machine shops in Marshfield are hiring, and I don't know how else to look for a job around here.
