An anime-loving otaku who works in the metal fabrication industry... quite an unusual combination of interests, isn't it?
During the process of learning CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machining this year at my technical college, my instructor told us we should try and develop a personal project using CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design / Computer Aided Machining) software on the computers.
I gave some thought to what I should make, and almost immediately the first thing that came to mind was the 2nd Gig logo, pictured here.

So I studied it carefully and sketched up a drawing, calculating approximate size dimensions and angles to use. Within no time at all, I had it all drawn up on the computer. Next came the programming, which didn't take too long either. Save the file and convert it to G-code M-code, and I was all set.
I then set up a Fadal CNC Mill and milled the logo out of .1250 inch (1/8th of an inch) aluminum.
This is the final result after a little polishing up.

Final size is roughly 5 inches wide by 7 inches long.
I could use it as a throwing star if I wanted to. >:D
If I had a few weeks of solid free time and the MasterCAM software, I could design up the Laughing Man logo, but all the letters on the outside boarder are nothing less than a total pain in the butt to perfect during the drawing stage.
Maybe I should set up my own shop just for anime related products once I graduate from school. I've already had others ask for my help to create some costume props for future conventions.
