Music That Makes You Dumb?

Postby Spittin Wheelie on Thu Mar 05, 2009 1:56 pm

Not to be taken too seriously, but I thought this was pretty cool:

CalTech grad student named Virgil Griffith has conducted an interesting (albeit somewhat unscientific) study relating music preferences with SAT scores. While SAT scores are criticized for not accurately determining intelligence, the results show that the “smartest” students’ favorite musician is Beethoven, with an average SAT score of 1371, and at the other end of the spectrum is Lil’ Wayne, with an average score of 889.

The only band on there I listen to is Evanescence, where be the metal?
Given that I would never live that down, I made a wisecrack instead. "Do you have a little white dress? I've had this deep-seated nurse fantasy about you, Murphy."

Maybe it didn't even make the chart?

just kidding...they don't exactly have a super huge selection, I would have to agree.

Why didn't I think of that for Statistics class??

I see rap and country rank low... :P

The title seems misleading though...I don't think the music makes someone dumb...I think people are or aren't to begin with..and the music is just an outlining factor...its like says tv and video games do the same thing

I was surprised Dragonforce didn't hit the list, but otherwise nothing I listen too is really popular enough to make a blip.

Only two that I really listen to much on that list were Pink Floyd and Sufjan Stevens.
I have to warn you, I am a bit odd...
Also, I don't know better than to leave myself logged in on April 1st.

I just checked, there are only 4 metal bands on that list. Horrible representation of a massively diverse genre of music. And yes metal is diverse. There's a matal band with 4 cellos and a drummer.(Apocalyptica is amazing)

Yeah, what's with metal getting the shaft? My first inclination was: "well, they can't include EVERY genre..there'd be way too many" but metal is huuge.
