Must see Asian Films

Postby DeadSid on Sun Apr 26, 2009 2:25 pm

I've decided to start my asian film kick what with having off after tonight for 5 strait days. we have a mess load at work so I'm asking you all

what is some of your favorite asian films.

Uzumaki and now Oldboy are at the top of my list I've got uzumaki laying around somewere but dont know were it is.

I am currently just about done with Sympathy for Mr Vengence but I dont know what to think about it.

ok it just ended. yeah its good but its EXTREMLY slow paced and has little to no music in it. so you really got to concentrate on watching it. I was expecting more seeing as how it was made by the director of old boy.

before anyone says it I've already seen Ichi the killer and I dont think we have hanzo the razor. I'm starting out with any of the asian extreme films we have at work. and probably going to watch tomie next seeing as how they are written by the same guy who did Uzumaki.

if you want as I watch the movies I'll reveiw them so everyone can know a bit about them.

There's always Ichi the Killer, I posted another thread about that one earlier.

Anything by Takahashi Miike is bound to be about as twisted and insane as you could ask for.

Also there's anything by Kurosawa, but everyone knows his stuff already.

I liked Lady Vengeance 2 better than the first personally, whatever the actual title is I forget.

Tokyo Gore Police

um....wow

if you have no qualms with really fake looking gore and special effects that involve biological pyrotechnics then this is a movie to make fun of. yeash. in one scene a guy whose legs were chopped off kept fighting by injecting himself with something so his blood would spray so hard he could fly threw the air like a friggun jet complete with engine sounds...... wow.... its just so bad XD

I'm pretty sure this was done from the same people involved with Stacy

H
Very good it is true to what it says about being Se7en and Silence of the lambs. seriously its like he took bits and pieces of both and mashed them together, while it wasnt really original in it the execution of meshing the 2 movies together was pretty well done. It was a little gorey at times but wasnt to bad.

OldBoy

Amazing everything about it was unique this was probably the best asian film I've ever seen. The story the art the entire style of the movie was so good. The main character was so quirky and fun as well. I dont suggest it though for the easily offended cause the subject matter could easily be taken badly.

Sympathy for mr vengence

I still don't know what to think about this movie it was good in alot of ways. but at the same time it was very slow and hard to follow at times. There was barely any music to it witch is understandable one of the main characters is deff and dumb. but the music was so good in oldboy I expected it from this movie since the director was the same. I heard the sequel was better but we doint have it at work. in all it was worth watching at least once.

If you haven't already, watch Host. It's an excellent monster movie from Korea and your store ought to have it.

Tampopo is a great movie, it's about a ramen shop but it's told in the style of an american western movie.

The Funeral and A Taxing Woman were from the same director using the same cast. They were good, but not as good as Tampopo.
There's nothing wrong with Sheboygan that a 20 megaton warhead couldn't fix
