What did you think of the panels?

What did you think of the panels?

Hey guys I was wondering if in this thread you could post all the panels that you attended, what you liked, what you didn't about each one. This feedback will help us have better panels next year, and what not to do if we did something wrong.

Lets see here...

Opening Ceremony - No Comment

Forum Meet Up - Although I liked the meet & greet style of the panel, I would have enjoyed more if some of the more popular topics from the forum were woven into the conversation. Also maybe some kind of mission or objectives being given for the forum people throughout the weekend.

AMV Contest - Tiny screen. Bad audio. In fact, I noticed throughout that with the exception of the dance, audio throughout was sub-quality when compared to some of the other cons I've been to. Audio problems are a problem with all cons usually though. In the case of Daisho Con, all of the rooms were small enough with the exception of when the divider walls were taken down, that a person's natural voice was a lot better than using the mics.

Con Ettiquette - This is a needed service that con staff should supply every year. I only attended half of it, but I think it's important to keep this just as it is. Maybe not have it conflict with so many other panels so that more people can attend.

Building Believable Characters - Fun stuff. I would recommend more roleplaying panels in the future.

Inuyasha - As an Inuyasha fan, I don't feel I'm qualified to find anything wrong with this panel. It was perfect.

Wheel of Anime - It was fun watching and the crowd got into it. The only thing that bothered me is the fact that if a player landed on free spin they didn't have to guess a letter to get the card. But then again, it doesn't have to be exactly like wheel of fortune. Just a personal annoyance for me.

Name That Anime Opening - Wonderful, wonderful panel. I really hope this is at Daisho Con next year.

Voice Acting vs Stage Acting - I know this is my own fault for my choices of panels, but as a fan, I just didn't get to see enough of Tiffany Grant this year. Then again, if I had been in twenty other panels she was running, I probably would have said the same thing. More of this kinda stuff please.

Survival Horror, It's fun being scared - It fit well with the zombies subtheme of the con (although admittedly there were several subthemes this year). Maybe have a bigger screen so we don't have to all huddle around a laptop.

Cosplay Contest - Nick left in far too few pieces. It's like false advertisement. I was hoping they would at least cut off a lock of hair or something. Here's for wishful thinking for next year.

Daisho Dance - Can't really talk about it. Lots of blinking, distracting lights. Great music though. Went and watched Negima.

Variety Show - My only regret is that my camera ran out of batteries halfway through. Does anyone have the full variety show footage?

Adapting Scripts for English Dubbing - See my comment about Tiffany Grant above.

Closing Ceremony - No Comment.

Well, the people who were supposed to run it didn't show up, so one of the ko-gals drafted me to help run it. We weren't really prepared but we tried to hit most points, although we did forget to remind people to tip the housekeeping staff. Some of the sci-fi cons I attend have a similar panel called "what to do at your first con" and run it right after opening ceremony. They work the etiquette into the panel.

Yeah, I couldn't remember which way it was supposed to go, so I made a snap decision. Once we started playing I realized it should be the other way but wasn't going to change the rules in the middle of the game because that would really suck. I'm glad you liked it. It did seem that most of the crowd had left near the end.

Sometimes I wonder if Con Etiquette should be part of Opening Ceremonies (not necessarily run by the same people, but part of the same hour). It seems to be very useful for new congoers and OC never runs the whole hour anyway.

I agree that there was a lack of A/V equipment at the con, which necessitated moving the AMV contest to a viewing room. Ideally, one of the panel rooms should have some sort of projector or monitor. The Famicon Dojo guys even brought in their own TV to screen their videos and we needed an emergency speaker transplant to run NTAO (including cables that I thankfully brought from home). Generally, I didn't have a problem projecting my voice for that, but a mic would have been a lot easier on my vocal cords (I regret forgetting my bottled water in the fridge at home). As I understood it, the problem was that the sound system was only wired to project into both panel rooms, so a mic could only be used in "main programming" events.

Glad you liked NTAO though. It's always a blast to run!
