Yesterday I finished "The issue at hand" by William Atheling, Jr, edited by James Blish. It's a compilation of reviews of magazine science fiction from the 1950s and '60s. Atheling (pseudonym for Blish) was mostly critiquing the technical aspects of the writing, but also addressed a bit of the content. He pointed out the flaws in their writing, such as the authors who seemed to unnecessarily replace the word "said" with anything that could do in its place. He laments the stories that aren't really science fiction, and some times he writes about stories that all follow a similar theme. It was pretty interesting; I dropped the book a few times because I was laughing so hard.

Just finished "Republic Commando: Order 66" by Karen Traviss.... yeah, it's Star Wars, but the author is a former British Defense correspondent, so she knows the jargon, and can make up stuff within the universe that makes sense, from both a Military and a Star Wars standpoint.

Anyway, it's the last in the Republic Commando series (which I am a big fan of... see avatar. :) ) And it's got one of the saddest endings in a book I've read recently, which actually wins it points. Star Wars doesn't always need to have a happy ending. :)

Not reading anything at the moment, but that'll change soon.

Since June, have read the first five books of the Fire and Ice series by George RR Martin. Love the rich "history" and the infusion of mythic beings into this society, though the 5th book was a slight disappointment because it focused on only about half of the characters and realm, while some of my favorites, like John Snow and Daenerys were ignored.

Now I'm looking forward to playing the Game of Thrones game.

I'm currently listening to Grave Peril by Jim Butcher. I'm listening because I've been sick and need something that involves no thought. It's quite good.
Given that I would never live that down, I made a wisecrack instead. "Do you have a little white dress? I've had this deep-seated nurse fantasy about you, Murphy."

I'm about half way through reading Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. It's the fourth book in the Twilight series. I'm reading them because my little cousin got me hooked after she read passages out load as part of her school assignment in hopes of annoying the heck out of me. LOL. The series is a good read and they are addicting kind of like the Harry Potter books, well it was for me at least.

I will note that if you did go and see the Twilight movie. LOL. The books are a million-billion times better then the movie. I was rather disappointed with how they did the movie if you can not tell.

That's an awesome book to read. Page 672. Hurry. Go there and be amazed!

Seriously. I should go read my old VB books. It's amazing how much coding style has changed since VB 4.0!

I'm currently reading the dresdan files. I've been averaging a book a day.

Chicago's only proffessional wizard takes on every kind of supernatural baddy you can think of. They are fairly adult, but not bookporn. And all in all good books.
