Some Christian People(Not all!)

Postby BMK on Sun May 31, 2009 9:53 pm

All I want to say it that its people like this they made me not want to be a christian.

I made this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owQWuo9iP8o

I know its a little one sided, but those people just acted like they came to UWSP to pick a fight, and thats not right.

I recently got this comment from ChristianVoice08

"Once again, in the name of tolerance, a homosexual says that we are not entitled to quote the Bible or express a view that is different that theirs. We are not showing hate when we warn people of what God has said is sin. Warning people about hell is LOVE. We didn't generate the message. We are only commanded to spread the message without changing it. Warning someone that the bridge is out ahead is not showing hatred for them just fear for their safety. It is not hatred but concern. "

I Responded with,

"I guess, but comparing what they did to warning someone about a bridge ahead is kinda foolish, they didn't actively try to change the religion of people that aren't Christian on campus, but in your belief wouldn't that also send people to hell for believing in a false god or god different than the one god. There are more people of different religions than homosexuals. They had to have know there were homosexuals on campus and to go there with the large signs saying that homosexuality is a sin couldn't have gone on with out someone thinking that it might cause anger, and I don't know if its a sin or not, but to just go into an area just to make people mad seems kinda foolish, and just wrong. UWSP has a large Christian campus organization, and they didn't go there to convert or to rally, they purely went there to be rabble rouser's, and what they did is wrong. "

A couple of minutes ago I received this private message,

"The message of God is offensive to ALL SINNERS. If we are not condemned by the law, we would not see the need to repent of our sins. I am not authorized to change the message. If salt is tasteless, it is known to be bad and no longer good for healing! Those who are offended by the message are sinners. Those afraid to share an offensive message are not of God, battleman. Soldiers afraid to use their rifle are only civilian posers in military garb...

Please, do not judge Christianity by the impotent, politically correct and inoffensive professing "Christians". Jesus, God Incarnate, was not a zealot. He was God. And that is why no one met His standard and why His teachings offend EVERYONE. It is also why His Gospel has changed history. He preached to the self-righteous who were moral. We preach to the self-righteous who are not so moral.

Sincerely,
CV08, some of the last of the salt"

I don't know what to do, I don't want to start a fight, but I guess I might have already...
Is there any way to avoid this or should I just not respond...
Anyone have any insight...

Start the fight, if they want to be offensive, then you retaliate how you see fit. He just said that he wasn't sorry for insulting people and that he'd do some more, so hit him with the book and use every counter-quote you can. If he thinks we're entitled to quote the Bible, then quote it. There's all sorts of good stuff in Leviticus that every anti-gay overlooks. I doubt you'll get him to change his mind, but it'll feel good, and in the end it's still better than the ruckus he's trying to stir up.
I must be Jewish...there's no logical reason for me not to be...

I completely agree with you man. Completely. I have several friends who are religious (some who are VERY religious as a matter of fact) but people who go out of their way to impose their religion on others... It leaves a bad taste in my mouth as well.

And yes, Granolaman has a very good point. There's some raunchy stuff happenin' in that bible if you look in the right places. And yes, it might not do too much good in an arguement, but it makes me feel better to be able to quote back at someone who tells me that I'm going to hell that their bible also has numerous mentions of wives loving their husbands for their donkey-like genetalia.

Well, he wants offensive, so I think that the easiest way to beat him is to not rise to the bait. I'm not saying to curl up like a puppy and take the abuse, I'm saying to stay calm while he gets more and more enraged. Beyond that, I dislike his assumption that the message of Jesus is offensive. I personally love Jesus and as many can attest, I'm probably one of the more outspoken atheists you'll find. He was a pretty awesome guy. Sure, he had a couple wacky ideas about his parentage, but overall he was great. Wanted nothing more than to heal the sick, promote tolerance, and to do a bit of carpentry. Nothing wrong with any of that.

That said, if all else fails, never try getting even with him. That will just lead to this escalating. Instead, get ahead. Far enough ahead that he can't even begin to contemplate how to get back to even with you. If you beat them by a bit, all you've done is win the first fight. Crush his spirit in the process, and you'll win all the next fights as well. (Thanks for that, Ender Wiggin!)
I have to warn you, I am a bit odd...
Also, I don't know better than to leave myself logged in on April 1st.

The notion of Jesus having an offensive message is a really good place to start. If you can get across that Jesus was generally all about the peace-and-love, and that the fire-and-brimstone side of the faith was added in later by shallow, less-than-divine types, consider that a major victory. Besides, it's the Bible-thumping soldiering that has led people away from Christianity in droves, so you're helping him out in the long run.

I also agree that there's no sense in you getting too riled up with this. Argue while you can tolerate it, but don't be afraid to bail if he's annoying you too much or if you're getting too vocal. Starting a Bible verse fight is also very risky with these types, so do it at your peril and keeping it focused on the message of Jesus is probably your only hope.

Wait, you aren't part demon? I've heard what happens when Sogen Law is broken. I don't know how you managed to fill his toothpaste tube with bees, either, but it's something that doesn't seem like it could happen without SOME demonic power...
