GI Joe Resolute

Postby Sargimus Prime on Fri Jun 05, 2009 11:49 am

My Friends I was fortunate several months back to watch something truly amazing on Adult Swim. GI Joe Resolute, i.e. the latest toon for this venerable franchise. It was a true site to behold. Great action (two words: Snake Eyes), good voices (Steve Blum as Duke :D ), a good plot, and the best and creepiest Cobra Commander to appear on screen. Even if you are not a fan this series is still quite accessible, I recommend to any one seeking a good action toon or just wanting to recapture you childhood presented in a more mature way. The only sad is that it was aired in mini episodes that combined only add up to an hour in length and there is no additional plans for a series :( . I however hope that someone, be it adult swim, or sci-fi even decides to pick this up and make a full series out of it. All I can say is to give it a shot. Forget Rise of Cobra, this is the real GI Joe movie for the summer.

Trust me you won't be dissapointed, this puts the old toon to shame in so many ways. Cobra Commander isn't a pansy. Also none of the Joes look like rejects from the Village People (Finally :P ). Lastly Snake Eyes plays an important part (as opposed to being forgotten like he was in the 80's toon). All in all a much better animated product that I hope, as I said before, gets a chance to shine as a full series

This movie didn't air several months back. It was actually just last month in May. It was indeed Awesome. There were so many people got BOOM! HEADSHOT'd right on screen. On Screen, with the blood splattering and all that.

Snake Eyes received a pretty fleshed out backstory, and had an extremely epic fight with Stormshadow at the end of the movie.

Cobra Commander hasn't ever been this evil before. Usually he's a pansy who thinks up lame ideas to take over the world, and ends up running away in the end. This one... He commits acts of mass genocide by destroying a major European city *BEFORE* he announces his plans to the whole world to use the weapon against the planet.

The Joes themselves had good qualities about them. It was too bad that a certain someone *censored* at the start of the movie.

It was funny to hear Steve Blum (Spike Spiegal from Cowboy Bebop, among many other anime roles) voicing about... 7 different major and minor characters across the film though. It did get a bit rediculous.

Ehhh not in my mind, but hey to each his own. You'll be glad to know that Shipwreck is in this.

Also, Batou thanks for helping clear that up, I guess i was thinking of late April/early May as being longer back than it actually was  . I am equally glad to hear some one else enjoyed as much as I did. I agree with the voice work as well, the voices were well done but I too wish they had a greater variety (there were only four VAs in total in the whole film) , especially in the female department (considering that all females are voiced by Grey Delisie [Azula from Avatar the Last Airbender]).

Jesus...I finally got around to watching the GI Joe movie trailer (Rise of Cobra)

Anyone else think this looks absolutely terrible? (for a GI Joe movie?)

To make matters worse:

Agreed, to be honest a lot of people I've talked to (some who even post the forums) have said that it doesn't even look like a GI Joe movie, instead it just appears as a Generic Action Movie. I feel this stems from the lack of making many of the characters unrecognizable (i.e. Destro, and Duke).

With regard to Stephen Sommers, he isn't a bad director per se, the first Mummy is still an enjoyable movie for me. However, much of his recent work has been lacking in terms of quality. When I heard he was removed I feared that the franchise would be in danger of failing, although even with on it and from what we've seen that's still a likely outcome. I shall try to keep an open mind and still see it. I hope I can reach a judgment at that point, until then I will try to avoid saying that this movie will be a complete failure.
