I rented this move after I read what sid had written about it. And I can honestly say that I agree, this is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. The Sci-fi, the comedy, and the horror blend sooo well with the music. The story behind the opera what good tooo. Good find Sid.

I am definitely listening to the soundtrack right now. It was a very good movie indeed.

Like Moulin Rouge with an injection of macabre, and maybe a little bit of acid.

Sorry to ruin your streak Sid. I can honestly say that musically I didn't like it. I honestly believe there was a ton of potential, but It struck me as a badly sung, overly simple version of the music I listen to. If I didn't listen to the music I do, I may have loved it. I'm a sucker for classic Sci Fi, although this one lacked any form of resolution for that particular set of problems(corruption/Geneco).

I guess I would say that I would rather listen to Cradle of Filth, Nightwish, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra(Beethoven's Last Night Album) to get roughly the same sound, but better sung and more interesting musically. Plus they lack whiny 17 year old girls, as attractive as she may have been. She was also the only singer I actually liked vocally.

Plotwise, it was good and fairly original(a bit of Brazil's(By Terry Gilliam) comedy aside), but as I said before, It lacked resolution. Geneco needed to fall. I know there are rumors of a sequel, but I don't trust sequels of cult classics.

For referance look up,
The Death of Love by Cradle of filth
Nymphetamine by Cradle of Filth
Her Ghost in the Fog by Crade of Filth
Misery By Trans Siberian Orchestra
Mephistopheles By TSO
Mephistopheles return by TSO
Nightwish's rendition of Phantom of the Opera
Wish I had An Angel by Nightwish
Most of the rest of my music collection that isn't power metal.
Given that I would never live that down, I made a wisecrack instead. "Do you have a little white dress? I've had this deep-seated nurse fantasy about you, Murphy."

Blasphemy! How dare you call Paris Hilton a bad singer! :P

Seriously though, I think Anthony Stewart Head did an excellent job as the repo man. Don't be raggin' on Giles now.

... Does anyone else think that Pavi Largo is a rendition of "Rape Face"? In more ways than one?

... He scares me...

Anyway, back to the point. I give it two dismembered thumbs up. I'm always a sucker for musicals, and this one was rather creative. It kind of reminded me of Little Shop, only with no nerd characters and more gore. Much more gore.

I find it odd that I liked it so much, considering my dislike for the Saw franchise. Maybe it's because they added music, I dunno.

I don't mean to rag on your opinion Andrew but you never like singing or any music that doesn't fit your specific Genre. So i say your opinion was expected. And from what i have seen from some low-budget musicals. trust me this was pretty well sung. I'm just saying that your as biased as usual. Thats all..... and i'm done discussing this.

I'm not, this is my style music, just poorly done. And I am usually a giving critic as far as non county/rap goes. I just state, it's not for me.

I have now seen it, and will say this: I enjoyed it. It had its foibles, but overall was done well enough to enjoy.
I have to warn you, I am a bit odd...
