I am wondering if anyone has any questions about the boffer fighting we are planning on running at the con?

What's the general skill-level you expect to see?

depends on who shows up. At Kakkoi con we had mostly new folks, and one or two ex or current larpers. For the folks who are experienced, they can try sparing with the staff of CBA, who are all solid fighters, and B) tend to do well in the tourneys.

If you just starting out, we give you the chance to play, if you have alot of experience, there are a couple of us who will probably be able to teach you something that you may not have known before, or techniques for training, that can help you in your own game. I personally specialize in tourney fighting, so tend to come up with regime that deal with winning tourney fights versus winning melee combats.

not really. but with the following caveats.
our weapons are themed, and only our weapons are going to be used. I disallow other weapons because of safety reason primarily. I have absolute control of their construction, and since its our neck on the line, as well as the Cons, I need to make sure they are safe. You are a larper, so you know what the risks of participating are, and have accepted them. Most players at a Convention are not Larpers, so do not understand the inherent risk of any semi-contact sport.

the other reason that you may want to dress up in a costume is that you get to fit in better that way. We are doing a Kingdom hearts themed event, at an anime convention. Most of the fighters will be dressed as anime characters. Dressing up will improve your own enjoyment and opportunity for fun with the other players.

what larp are you form?

only under one circumstance. That is if I make a foam weapon in the general shape and feel of a Kendo stick.

It may happen, I have the core for that type of blade and have been considering it, but, I have 50 struggle bats that I am working on right now(I have 20ish done now), and one short bladed Buster sword. we will see if I get to Kendo weapons or not.

We made up our own larp and beleive me the padding of the weapons is much appreciated cause back in the day we used sticks and arrows with marbels on the end. it was pretty gehtto back then. I remember coming home with bloody knuckles and bruises many days. (this was like 15 years ago)

I read alot afterwords about larp but everyone was out of that phase by then. Most recently I have heard about darkon but thats in california. (I highly suggest watching the movie darkon its fun.)

And as for dressing up my normal attire consists of designer pants belt and wallet chains a fedora witha skull on it and a track jacket that has the cobra decepticon logo on it. I dont think that I'll be toooo out of the regular theme.

I am can empathize, I started out in live steel fighting in Portland, OR. I watched as several close freinds got some fairly bad injurys messing around like that.

Because this is a Convention event we have to emphasize safety. So padding is important. ;) We dont want some Emo "L" out there swinging a stick getting hurt and an overly energetic Sora.

I was thinking of decorating a pair of pants for the con but it would require ALOT of markers and I dunno how to protect the ink from running when washed. (I have super permanent sharpies I snag from work)

Do you have polearms? my secialties are polarms and tonfas.

sigh

Ok, here is the reason I wont allow polearms in the show. Space. We have a limited area in wich everyone needs to share for open playing. the area required for two folks using short sword (34 inches) is, in general MUCH less than two guys using pole arms. At Kakkoi Con, I had quite a few folks hit on the back swing, by stray poles, so afte the first night, we cut them form the show.

I have a max of 4 1/2 ft on any given weapon right now.

On tonfa's well, if I make a pair, then you can use them. ;). they tend to break alot because of the joint, but I have some ideas that I have been using on keyblades, so they may work on tonfa as well.

I'm a defensive fighter granted the last time I fought was a very long time ago. Tonfas are a very defensive weapon allowing you to get a good grip and defend against much harder attacks while being light enough to defend against quicker movments. They also allow for your arms to gain an added bonus of defense cause they dont expose your forarms as much. the negative being of course distance. Will there be any access for those who want to warm up or train?

as long as your planning only on using the weapons supplied, and realize that no grappling ect will be allowed sure.

Remember that with weapons "Form follows function". In this style of playing, certain weapons are irrelevent, because they do not function well in what is more or less Touch-Tag with weapons.

As far as training, I am giving a panel on basic fighting, Saturday morning I think. I will do advanced training somewhat, as time permits. My LT. also will give some advanced training, depending on what we are needing with time to run the show.

true true hence why I chose not to go with dagger styles. since lighter short boffer daggers are extremly light and can be knocked out easily. what I mean by deffensive is more deflect then attack sort of approach.

the only other style I can think of is shield and short sword but I doubt your letting in shields cause it gives a bit to much of and advantage.
