The Hotel's New Restaurant

Postby Serra on Thu Nov 20, 2008 12:11 am

I was checking out the Ramada's website so I could tell my family where to find me if (Dog forbid) something happened to one of us and I had to run like hell back home, and I found out something.

The Tilted Kilt is having its Grand Opening the same weekend as the con.

Never heard of the Tilted Kilt? Think Hooters with a Scotch-Irish theme: The waitresses are all slender young women in very short kilt-style miniskirts, bras that match and a white shirt tied under the boobs. They wear some sort of knee socks and shoes to coordinate with the outfit. Our hotel is opening this Scotch sports bar restaurant the same weekend we'll be there (with kids all over creation).

I'm not here to argue whether the young cute women are being exploited by letting men look at them half-naked while they eat bad food, or if the young women are the exploiters due to the fact that they walk out each night having made an assload of tips. It's not my issue and has nothing to do with the convention.

My objection here--I accidentally walked into one with friends in Green Bay (I'd never heard of them then). The food was horrible.

Really horrible--horrible enough for me to be able to talk two healthy men into LEAVING the place and going with me to get better food somewhere else (we wound up at Grazie's--awesome lasagna!). Let's keep in mind I am neither young nor am I cute--my days of being employed there or at Hooter's or anything similar (but back when I WAS that age? I'd have had no problem working those places--I made really good money tending bar, which helps if one has similar traits, like a large AND REAL rack, for instance) are pretty much over, but the guys didn't complain about leaving when it was obvious the food sucked and we really wanted a better restaurant.

Does anyone actually know if the Stevens Point version has GOOD food? Please for the love of Dog say yes? I will be bummed on a stick if I have to put up with both that horrible atmosphere AND bad food to be able to get food IN the hotel?

No idea about the food or the atmosphere. Heck, the only time I've been in a Hooters was for a bathroom break on the way back from Ohayocon. But anyone else interested in how this place opening and deer hunting season will mesh with the con? I have too much respect for deer hunting and short skirts to call it a potential problem, but I get the sneaking suspicion that *something* with these guys will end up in my recap. :)

You know, I didn't even think about this being the opening for Gun Deer season too! Perfect opening if you run a restaurant where the waitresses are half-dressed, but something you won't be telling the wife about deer camp this year maybe?

I looked at that earlier tonight. I was a little confused because the hotel website is something like "wisconsin-comedyclub" and then I followed the links and got red plaid & football. I hadn't gathered that it was a Hooters clone. Egads, the kiltgear page removes all doubt. No, wait, I'm going to have to spend some more time examining that calendar to be sure. :)

How are the bar prices at these places?

Horrible, and you're expected to drop a couple of bucks on the bartender when you reorder.

There are plenty of good places to eat, all within driving/walking distance. For example, just down the street is Tokyo's Steakhouse. I recommend it.

I wonder what they'll think of our costumes. :)

We could always treat them to a few choruses of Cruel Angel's Thesis, Speed Racer, and the Sailor Moon theme song.

Does the hotel have a restaurant that serves breakfast?

Oh, don't forget that the pouch they wear on their waist with a kilt is called a sporran.

Hey! They're going up against 1stAgent's room party!

When i went to the one in Green Bay the food was pretty good. Either you were unlucky or I was lucky. Nonetheless i don't tend to go to places where they try to sucker you into paying larger tips in suck an obvious manner.

But there are a lot of other good places to eat in Point.

Grazies on the other side of town, the smaller bars and eateries downtown, a few fast food joints on Division..

And Debot for those of us unlucky to have to dine at UWSP. :D

Awesome answers so far--and thanks Wheelie, didn't know about breakfast on the house at the hotel or I wouldn't have brought my own coffeemaker (Yes, I did that--I like GOOD coffee and will go to great lengths to get it), but it's all good.

Keep the input coming--I'm really interested in what you think--one of the nights btw Austin Healy is playing.

I absolutely hated the TK we have here in Green Bay. I was seeing waitresses give out their phone numbers to customers......AND GETTING AWAY WITH IT!

Had one of them done it at Hooters, they'd be fired in a heartbeat.

The problem I have with this place is that it does NOT belong in a hotel where children will be staying! And, I plan on letting the Ramada know exactly how I feel about that.
