What is your favorite Sci-Fi universe?

Postby Tom_Bombadil on Fri Sep 19, 2008 11:39 am

This is the place to talk about your very favorite Science Fiction universe. Mine is the Firefly-verse. Everything about that show brings me great joy. The idea of China and the US becoming the dominant super power of the world is very interesting to me, and it allows for the oft hilarious swearing in Chinese that is so commonplace in Firefly.

I cant tell you what would be my favorite, however; my top three are as follows:

Firefly/Serenity

Star Wars

Mass Effect

My favorite verse is got to be the Star Trek 'verse. Mostly because I can relate to it. Humans exploring outer space. My outer space.

Anyone ever read the book Snow Crash? That's one of my fav. universes.

And I like the Gundam Universes... and I don't see FFVII as a sci-fi universe, I do see FFVIII as having some good elements though...

Recently just started playing a ps1 game called Galerians, sci-fi survival horror (part of the stack of survival horror games Macha and I are plowin' through to prep for our panel), and I have to say that one has a pretty intriguing setting to it too.

Oh and .hack.

Snow Crash, like most of William Gibson's works, was quite good.
There's nothing wrong with Sheboygan that a 20 megaton warhead couldn't fix

I'll have to agree with a lot of what has been said. One addition I would like to make though is the universe of Battlestar Galactica. It gets an appluase from me because it takes actual physics into account and still manages to pull off cool space scenes (wiht some nice political drama thrown in there as well.)

FYI I'm talking about the new series not the old 70's one.

I'd have to say my favorites are:

Gundam (any, but I do like the AC-verse best.)
Star Wars
Star Trek
Pernese (It IS sci-fi based... they got there on spaceships, used genetic engineering to make their dragons, who make fire using chemical reactions. No magic!) or really, any of Anne McCaffrey's universes. (Petaybee, Talents, Brain & Brawn ship, etc etc.)
Battlestar Galactica

probably others, but I can't think of them at the moment.

Star Wars, followed by Firefly, for sure. The Chiss and the Mandalorians are just that awesome. :)

I feel that I should amend my first post. I believe that in actuality my favorite Science Fiction universe is the one described by the Foundation series, by Isaac Asimov.
